Best Time to Visit Kashmir
Kashmir transforms dramatically across the seasons, each offering a distinct palette of experiences. Here's our complete month-by-month guide.
Spring (March–May)
March brings the first thaw and the famous Tulip Festival in Srinagar's Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden - Asia's largest tulip garden. April-May is ideal for Mughal Gardens and Dal Lake shikara rides.
Summer (June–August)
Peak tourist season. Gulmarg's meadows bloom, Sonmarg's meadows turn gold, and Pahalgam offers riverside bliss. Temperatures hover at 20-30°C - perfect escape from India's plains heat.
Autumn (September–November)
Perhaps Kashmir's most romantic season - the chinar trees turn crimson and gold, Mughal gardens blaze with colour, and the crowds thin. September is harvest time for saffron in Pampore.
Winter (December–February)
For snow lovers and skiers - Gulmarg's legendary powder skiing is at its peak, Dal Lake may freeze, and the entire valley turns into a snow-globe. Houseboat stays are magical with kangri (fire pots).
Our recommendation: April-May for tulips & gardens, September for autumn romance, January for skiing.
