About Magnetic Hill

Magnetic Hill, on the Leh-Srinagar highway about 30 km from Leh, is one of Ladakh's most famous quirks - a short stretch of road where, with the engine off and in neutral, vehicles appear to roll uphill against gravity. While scientists attribute the effect to a powerful optical illusion caused by the surrounding terrain's false horizon, the experience remains uncanny and is a must-stop on the Leh sightseeing circuit. Adjacent to Magnetic Hill sits Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, a Sikh shrine built around a boulder believed to bear the imprint of Guru Nanak's body - a point of pilgrimage combining spiritual and roadside Americana-style wonder.
