About Tso Moriri

Tso Moriri, at 4,522m in the remote Changthang plateau of south-east Ladakh, is the larger and more pristine cousin of Pangong Tso - a 28-km-long lake of astonishing blue ringed by 6,000m peaks, the snow-capped Lungser Kangri dominating its south shore. The lake is fed by glacial streams and snowmelt and is a Ramsar wetland of international importance, home to bar-headed geese, black-necked cranes and brahminy ducks. The surrounding Changthang is the homeland of the nomadic Changpa herders of pashmina goats, whose black yak-hair tents dot the lake's shores. Reaching Tso Moriri requires a 2-day journey from Leh via the Upshi-Pang road, with the option to continue on to Pangong via the remote Tsokar route.
