The Complete Ladakh Bike Trip Guide
The Manali-Leh motorcycle journey - 473 km across five high-altitude passes - is on every rider's bucket list. Here's how to plan it right.
Best Time
Mid-June to mid-September. Rohtang Pass opens late May, but June is safest. Snow closes the road by October.
The Route (4-5 days)
- Manali → Jispa (140 km) - cross Rohtang La (3,978m), Keylong, overnight Jispa
- Jispa → Sarchu (80 km) - cross Baralacha La (4,890m), overnight Sarchu tents
- Sarchu → Leh (250 km) - cross Nakee La, Lachulung La, Tanglang La (5,328m)
- Leh → Nubra via Khardung La
- Optional extension → Pangong Tso
Bike Rental
Royal Enfield Himalayan or Bullet 500 - ₹1,500-2,000/day in Manali. Carry spare clutch wires.

Critical Tips
- Acclimatize in Manali (1,950m) → Jispa (3,200m) → Sarchu (4,300m) gradually
- Carry extra fuel (250+ km without pumps on some stretches)
- Avoid riding after dark
- Keep ₹1,000+ in cash - limited ATMs beyond Keylong
