About Doodhpathri

Doodhpathri, the 'Valley of Milk', is a relatively recent addition to Kashmir's tourist map - a sweeping emerald basin at 2,730m where the Shaling river tumbles over white limestone rocks, churning into a milky foam that gives the place its name. Endless grasslands roll toward pine-clad ridges, dotted with grazing sheep and horses. There are no crowds here, no hotels yet - just a handful of stalls selling kahwa and the deep silence of the high meadows. Day-trippers from Srinagar and Sopore come for picnics, pony rides along the river, and treks up to the lake at Poshker. It is Kashmir as it must have looked a century ago - unspoiled, vast, and impossibly green.
