About Hazratbal Shrine

The Hazratbal Shrine, set on the northern edge of Dal Lake, is the holiest Muslim shrine in Kashmir. Its brilliant white marble dome and single minaret, reflected in the lake, form one of Srinagar's most iconic silhouettes. The shrine houses the Moi-e-Muqqadas - a sacred relic believed to be a strand of hair from the Prophet Muhammad, brought to Kashmir in the 17th century. The shrine is serene and beautifully maintained, with a spacious courtyard that hosts large Friday congregations. Adjacent to the shrine, the Hazratbal market sells everything from kebabs to Kashmiri handicrafts, while the lakeside boulevard offers sweeping Dal views.
